Our straight forward, budget friendly course, is perfect those looking to complete their PADI Scuba Certification on the Great Barrier Reef!

Got plenty of time but want to save as much cash as possible?  We have the perfect option for you!  This PADI Open Water Course is run over 4 Days, with 2 days in the classroom/pool then 2 days, & 4 training dives at the Outer Great Barrier Reef onboard Evolution.

At the end of day 2 classroom and pool training, we strongly recommend attending ‘Reef Teach’.  ‘Reef Teach’ is a fun and informative marine biology presentation that will greatly enhance your diving experience and launch into the amazing world of marine life that awaits below the surface.

Commencing: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
Location: Day 1 & 2: Down Under Dive, 287 Draper Street, Cairns,
Day 3 & 4: Osprey V dive vessel, departing Cairns from A Finger, Cairns Marlin Wharf
Requirements: Min age 12 years, Ability to Swim, Medical Clearance (if required)


Learn to Dive Requirements

Pre course requirements (to be completed before the first day of the course):

  • Minimum 12 years of age and a confident swimmer.
  • If you have any medical conditions that conflict with diving, for example but not limited to, asthma, epilepsy, recently broken bones or damaged tissue, heart disease, you will be required to complete a Australian Standards Dive Medical.

You may require a Medical Clearance from a doctor prior to starting your referral course. If you:

  • Have or have had any of the medical conditions mentioned in the Student Medical Declaration; OR
  • Are over 45; OR
  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of more than 30 AND a waist circumference of more than 102cm for males or 88cm for females.

You will need to provide a written statement by a Medical Practitioner (preferably with experience in diving medicine) that states you are ‘Fit To Scuba Dive’ if you have any of the above or answer a YES question on the Student Medical Declaration. Some medical conditions or prescription medication may prevent you from diving.
